Contamination refers to the tendency of catching any flaw or defect in the quality of final textile product due to the presence of extraneous and undesirable substance in yarn. 
The primary source of contamination persists from the cultivation of fiber to the spinning of yarn. Contamination at yarn stage are categorized in 3 types :

• Removable contaminants – dust, rust, mud and washable finish stains.
• Partially removable contaminants – loose fly spun, oil or grease stain.
• Irremovable contaminants – bleached fiber, fiber loving optimal brightening agent, dyed fiber contaminants that get spun with the yarn.

The processing behaviour of the yarn is often influenced by these factors, resulting in heightened stoppage rates during knitting and weaving operations when there is a greater presence of foreign fibers within the yarn. Once these sources are sorted out using the combination of tools, know-how and best possible systems in place at every point, elimination process becomes easier and effective. Hence, the low or nil degree of fly contamination results in increased knitting and weaving efficiency.

During the mercerization procedure, cotton yarn undergoes treatment with a solution of caustic soda, leading to swelling of the fibers and rearrangement of their cellulose structure. After that, tension is applied on the surface of the threads of each fiber, resulting in cotton fiber becoming more durable and resistant to wear and tear. This is then followed by neutralizing and rinsing the treated yarn to ensure a clean, high-quality final product that is free from any residual chemicals or agents affecting its performance or wearability.
  
During the gassing process, the mercerized cotton yarn is exposed rapidly to a hot gas flame removing any fuzz or excess lint on the thread. This results in a brighter and smoother appearance.

The slub effect can be attained through a range of techniques, each with its own advantages and challenges.
